September 11th

I know I am a couple of days late with this, but it's been one of those weeks!

What a sad day! It's still astonishing everytime you watch the old coverage and news clips. I'm sure we all remember where we were and what we did that day. How could we forget? I didn't know anyone that was killed, but with my husband working for the federal government, his building was evacuated that day. I was glad when he came home and I knew that he was safe. The same with when my son got out of school. We were all home and safe and together. That was what mattered.

I wrote this on Sept. 11th:

America Cried Today

America cried today.
Thousands of Her voices were silenced.
Hundreds of Her brave were taken.
There is a stunned silence,
followed by whispered prayers,
mixed with fallen tears.
America will never be the same.
She was attacked by a faceless enemy and left deeply wounded.
Her innocence has been stripped away.
But She and Her people are strong.
They will survive.
America will gather Her strength and become stronger by the outpour of love of Her people.
Images will forever be etched in their minds.
They will always remember where they were today.
They will never forget!
America cried today.

I wrote this on the 6 month anniversary of 9/11:

Lady Liberty

Lady Liberty, tell me, what do you see?
As you look at this city where the towers used to be.
Do you still see the smoke as it filled the sky?
Do you now see our flags waving, oh, so high?
Lady Liberty, tell me, how do you feel?
Do the events of September still seem all too real?
Does your heart still break inside?
Do your tears still flow with the tide?
Lady Liberty, tell me, what do you know?
How do we stand noble as onward we go?
Do we still bow our heads and pray?
Do we still thank God for every day?
Lady Liberty, I'll tell you what I do see.
I see a great land - the home of the free.
I still see the smoke when I close my eyes.
But, our Stars and Strips still proudly flies.
Lady Liberty, I'll tell you how I feel.
That day in September, how I wish it wasn't real.
My heart still breaks when I think of this.
And tears always flow for those we miss.
Lady Liberty, I'll tell you what I still know.
Our freedom's worth fighting for, against any foe.
God still loves us, so we bow our head and pray.
He's given us a great country for which we thank Him every day.
